The short answer

Questions people ask

How much does a pool renovation cost in Pretoria?

Depends on the scope. Crispy Pools' October 2026 examples run from R17,300 for a 4 x 4 m pool to R66,500 at the top of its 10 x 5 m range. These are that operator's examples, not calculations from your dimensions. Quick Pools shows between R25,000 and R80,000 for a concrete pool. Neither says if VAT is included. Tiles, coping and crack work are usually extra. See the cost guide.

How long does a pool renovation take?

Trademen Pools, a Gauteng operator, puts a straightforward marbelite or fibreglass job at three to five days between drain and refill. Treat that as one operator's building time, not total swimming downtime. A shell that needs crack work, new tiles or new coping can take longer. We'll tell you the plan once we have seen the pool.

What is the difference between resurfacing and a full renovation?

Resurfacing replaces the finish on the shell. A renovation is wider: it can add crack work, new waterline tiles and new coping while the pool is empty. Crispy Pools prices the surface as its own line and the extras separately.

What is marbelite, and how does it compare with other finishes?

A hand-laid plaster over the concrete shell, 6 to 8 mm thick on Marbelite Pools' figures. Fibreglass is the other finish Gauteng operators quote, a glass-fibre reinforced laminate of resin and glass fibre with a gelcoat. Both operators we found price fibreglass higher. See resurfacing and marbelite.

Can I swim while the pool is being renovated?

No. The pool is drained for the work, and the new surface needs time before anyone goes in. Never walk into a newly plastered pool before it is filled. A drained pool needs a secure barrier around it, never an ordinary or floating cover. Keep children and pets out of the pool area for the duration.

When can I use the pool after resurfacing?

Not until three things are true: the finish maker's waiting period is over, the start-up routine is finished and the water chemistry is suitable. What the installed finish's own care guide says decides it. Brushing and cover intervals in one maker's guide are care steps, not permission to swim. See resurfacing and marbelite.

What time of year should I renovate?

One Gauteng operator says resurfacing enquiries drop between May and August and suggests booking in September. Another price guide says coping work is cheaper from May to August. Both are one company's view, so ask for a price on a date.

Do I need to empty the pool myself?

No, and please do not try. Drainage is the renovator's call and job, made only once groundwater, shell stability and the water's destination are assessed. Tell us about anything that affects the job, such as a pool cover, a pump room that is hard to reach or estate rules on trucks.

What should I prepare before you arrive?

Clear access to the pool, move furniture and loose items from the edge, secure pets, and tell us what access procedure your estate applies. Photos of the surface, cracks and tiles help when we ring you.

How do I get a price?
