One Centurion operator's October 2026 guide publishes marbelite resurfacing examples from R17,300 to R66,500, for pools of roughly 38 to 95 square metres of surface. A quoting site lists R25,000 to R80,000 for a concrete pool. Tiles, coping and crack work usually cost extra, and none of these sources states VAT.
What decides the price of a renovation?
Six things move the number. They are listed here in the order the work happens, which is also roughly the order in which they become known.
- Pool size. Resurfacing is priced by the area of the shell. Crispy Pools quotes marbelite at R450 to R700 per square metre.
- Condition of the old surface. The more that has to come off, and the worse the shell underneath, the more the job grows.
- What the shell shows once it is bare. Crack work is priced separately in the guides we read. One operator puts structural crack work at roughly R15,000 to R60,000 or more, and says that figure is a market range rather than its own quote.
- Finish and colour. Fibreglass is priced above marbelite in both operator guides we found. Colour is listed as a driver too.
- Tiles and coping. Priced as their own lines. See the tiling and coping page.
- Access and site. Estate access rules, pipework under paving and the pool's depth all appear in operator guides as things that change a price.
Quick Pools adds that labour runs at R300 to R600 per hour and makes up about 60% of the total cost. It also says winter is cheaper for some work, though one Gauteng operator describes winter as simply quieter.
What do published prices say?
Here are the renovation prices that are published online, each with its source and date. They come from operators and from a quoting site, not from a standards body. They disagree with each other in places, and none states VAT. Use them as a sense check, not a quote.

| Coping renewal, Pretoria | R500 to R1,500 per linear metre | Not stated | Quoting site | Quick Pools | Labelled 2026 |

The areas in the first three rows are approximate surface areas, which is not the same as length times width: walls, floor, depth and steps all count. The totals are the operator's own published examples, not a calculation from plan dimensions, so your pool will not necessarily land on them. Three things to notice. Trademen Pools' R18,000 for a 6 x 4 m pool sits below the bottom of Crispy Pools' range for the same size, so quotes for the same job can differ a lot. Quick Pools' pages contradict each other in places (its own page gives basic renovation as low as R1,500 and as high as R75,000), so we have used only its resurfacing, tile and coping figures. And Crispy Pools says each of its written quotes shows whether VAT is included, so ask.
What do low quotes leave out?
A low number is not always a cheap job. In Crispy Pools' guide, the resurfacing price covers the full interior surface at a rate per square metre. Crack work, remodelling, tiling and equipment sit on separate lines.
So a quote that says only "resurfacing" may not include any of these:
- Crack work found once the old finish is off.
- Waterline tiles. Often a separate line.
- Coping. Usually priced per metre, and sometimes with its own removal charge.
- Fittings and plumbing that turn out to need replacing.
- VAT. None of the published sources above states it.
Ask for the quote as a list of lines, with the finish named.
Why is the final price only known part-way through?
Cost follows the order of work in the renovation sequence, though contractors and finish systems can change the order:
- Inspect: gives an estimate, built on what can be seen.
- Drain: exposes the internal surfaces and fittings. Buried plumbing is not visible, so leaks may need separate testing.
- Strip: shows how much finish has to come off.
- Fix the shell: the stage that most often moves the price.
- Tile and cope: priced per tile band or per metre, with removal of old coping sometimes on top.
- Resurface: priced per area, so this is one of the most predictable lines.
If the stripped shell changes the plan, you hear about it before anything goes ahead.
Questions to ask any renovator
- Which finish is this price for, and what colour?
- Does the price cover crack work, tiles and coping?
- Is VAT included?
- What happens to the price if the shell needs more work than expected?
- Who does the work, and what secure barrier keeps children and pets away from the pool while it is empty?
